As seniors, we often talk about leaving our mark before moving on to the next stage of life. For the Class of 2026, that mark is the senior mural.
The idea for the mural began in our Senior Class Committee meetings. We wanted something that would represent the whole grade– something that would serve as a memory even when we have gone our separate ways. After creating a poll with a few ideas from seniors, the class landed on creating a mural that highlights both our individuality and our unity as a class. The mural’s theme is “A Blockbuster Year: Starring WHS Class of 2026.” Designed like a film reel, the mural captures the highlights of our senior year as if they were scenes from a movie. Each panel of the filmstrip represents a milestone, including Senior Sunrise, the Tailgate, Prom, Senior Trip, and of course, graduation. Together, these snapshots tell the story of the experiences we have shared and the ones still ahead.
When people walk by, they will see more than colorful images. They will see the energy, creativity, and teamwork of our class. Seniors came together to plan, sketch, and paint the mural, each person adding their own personal touch. Just like in a movie, it took a cast and crew to bring the vision to life. We wanted the design to feel like a red-carpet premiere, complete with bright colors, bold lines, and the excitement of something unforgettable.
Our mural is also a symbol of what we want this final year to mean. As Senior Class President Kelley McCormack (‘26) put it, “Our mural isn’t just about a painting on a wall but a story that tells how much potential every senior has and how our futures are directed by us.” Her words capture the spirit of the project perfectly. The mural represents more than just high school pride. It is a statement of belief in ourselves and in the paths we will take beyond these walls.
Senior Class Treasurer Sydney McGinley (‘26) reflected that same feeling when she said, “This mural came from shared ideas, hard work, and the determination to leave something behind.” It is a reminder that what we do together matters, and that even small contributions can build something lasting.
Our mural isn’t just about looking back at our favorite memories. It is also about looking forward. Written across one of the panels are the words: “Your Future: Directed by You.” Just as a film director controls the story on screen, each of us has the power to direct our own future beyond high school. It’s our story, our movie, and our last year to make one blockbuster of a year.
