The Wissahickon Homecoming Spirit Week opened Monday September 22nd with a relaxing pajama day. Excitement was building coming from the weekend as students embraced comfort in their PJ’s.
After a day off, everyone returned on Wednesday the 24th with a pink out in honor of “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” from the 2004 film Mean Girls. Many students participated in this alongside Student Council’s new rock, paper, scissors tournament. Students received a rubber band during homeroom and had the opportunity to challenge others throughout the entire school day to accumulate as many bands as they could. Students quickly grew dedicated to this competition, an inspiring and exciting event as the week continued. Then, at the end of the day those with more than thirty bands battled it out, and Tyler Fisher (‘27) came out on top!
Thursday’s theme was class colors with Freshmen wearing gold, Sophomores grey, Juniors navy blue, and Seniors in white. A full-fledged example of school spirit and healthy competition, Thursday’s grade color day was marked with each grade competing to see which was the most spirited; students in each class brought together under their color sparking feelings of unity and belongingness. The annual Pickleball Tournament took place Thursday afternoon. In a tense multi-round bracket competition, numerous duos took to the Square Gym, fighting each other for the Pickleball champion title. Midway through, adventurous students took part in the pickle-eating competition, a race of finishing one pickle first. Congrats to everyone that participated, especially Mason Cho (‘26) and Cameron Byer (‘26) for winning the tournament, and Jacob Matthew (‘26) with his decisive victory in the pickle eating competition! Both were healthy competitions bringing smiles to everyone.
As students geared up for the big homecoming football game that night, Friday was a celebration of the football team, cheerleaders, all fall sports, and homecoming court candidates. For the glow-out theme of this year’s pep rally, students and teachers participated in a neon spirit day, wearing their vibrant shades of yellow, pink, green, blue, and orange. At the end of the day, all grades came together in the circle gym with glow sticks to cheer on students and teachers during their lively student-teacher dance and fall sports captains. The energy reached new heights when Student Council introduced table surfing for the first time—many students absolutely loved it and it became an instant highlight! The excitement continued as we celebrated the football team and our two homecoming court duos: EJ Booker (’26) / Na’Kai Potter (’26) and Ray Pelletier (’26) / Chace Kim (’26)!
That evening, the Wissahickon student body showed out in their white at the annual Homecoming Football game Friday evening. Both the spirit and the stakes were high as the football team took on William Tennent High School. While the bar was set high, the football team put on an amazing performance, winning 35 to 0, a well-deserved win for the team!
