The Trojan Times Editors-in-Chief Sophia Kim (left) and Petra Lee (right) are ready to shine light on the people, events, and opinions of the Wissahickon community.
As autumn leaves begin to fall and create a crackly blanket on the ground, students and staff can’t help but reminisce about the warm grains of sand abrading between their toes. The physical warmth of summer can’t be replicated, but since energy cannot be created or destroyed, the heat from down the shore can transfer to the fiery hearts of students across campus. Whether inside the classroom conducting a lab experiment, solving a geometric proof to establish the congruence of two triangles, sculpting a clay mound into a functional piggy bank or outside the classroom scoring a goal during Senior Night, raising money for childhood cancer research, or singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” with the select choir, students disperse their sparks in various directions, keeping themselves enlightened and engaged. For the freshmen, the start of the school year marks a time to explore and absorb the sparks from the grades above you; you are the fresh voices of our school and the torchbearers for the next generation.
At The Trojan Times, our editorial board and staff are hot off the press. Every fire needs fuel, and you ignite us by reading our publications, sharing your opinions, and writing new articles. It is easy to be consumed by the fire of academics and extracurriculars; however, in order to truly appreciate the beauty of the flames, it is valuable to sit back and reflect on the things lighting up our community. As much as we appreciate our readers, we hope more journalists, critics, and citizens can awaken to contribute to our newspaper: these are our stories, our documents, and our interpretations of the world around us.
Since the beginning of our high school journey three years ago, a lot has changed—locally, nationally, and internationally. While The Trojan Times only covers school
wide topics, writing for us ensures you leave behind your own uniqueness, your fingerprints that capture the essence of the Wissahickon community and its relevance to the whirlwind of change around the world. Every perspective, passion, and story penned becomes a testament to the value of student thought, creativity, and engagement. Journalism is not only about reporting the facts. It also amplifies and illuminates student representation and ideas. Regardless of your writing expertise, you can be a creative voice representing the colorful diversity of our beloved Wissahickon community.
So, we invite you to observe your ordinary days at the high school this year and ponder what exciting stories you can tell. Go to club meetings, have thoughtful conversations with your teachers and peers, and keep a list of topics that interest you. Discover purpose in your perspectives, find joy in scribbling down your thoughts, and experience the refreshment of creative freedom. We hope to report your stories and events that elevate people’s perceptions on the world around them. Here’s to fanning the flames of Wissahickon’s voices and a wonderful 2025-2026 year!
